Really interesting read - IM Greg Shahade: "Slow Chess should die a fast death"!

@scottdpt12

Exactly.

Going to extreme is not a good thing. Same thing goes for those 1,3,5 min games. For me that looks ridiculous.

@kris9191

Your quote makes no sense. For me those short chess games of 1,3,5 min look ridiculous and boring.

Since I am an amateur by your logic that means that i am not correct and that those blitz games are interesting.

SO you want classical chess tournament time to be 1 min per game?!

@BestSiteEver == yes, you're right, you're amateur. Read message number 40 again, then back here and read first sentence.
No offense I think you are the one who should analyze what are saying and carefully do the same with my response.

@kris9191 Your comment is reaffirming evidence that general discourse is lacking these days. You arrogant and dismissive comment doesn't deserve my sustained attention. Good luck in the future with engagement rather than belittlement.
Guys... Chillax. The point Kasparov tried to prove with that quote is that positions amateurs call uninteresting are sometimes filled with nuances and complexity. Making them really interesting at higher levels. Take MC-Karjakin fex. Sure it wasn't the most spectacular match. But even the most boring games were interesting.
You make it sound like Kasparov him self actually posted that here.

The problem with that quote is that it makes no sense in this case. I gave an example why in my previous post and you explained it also.

That girl/guy who posted it can't seem to comprehend that.

Spectating a chess game is like watching a film of David Lynch( without the naked pretty girl that is usually there lol)Most of the things that occur happen in the background and if you want to appreciate the beauty of those things you will have to think for yourself, something that I understand can be pretty difficult for most people
Still one of the most beautiful things about chess is the depth of some ideas and the feeling of the flow you get when you watch a high level game.
I agree that reducing the time controls, and transpose the game to a "who will make the bigger blunder kind of game" can be more spectacular for most of the spectators , but there are two things I want to mention about that
a) Who the f*** cares about the random patzers-spectators
b) if you like something more action-packed there are plenty of things you can watch and enjoy, I mean hey, shoutout to you random guy, if you dont like either playing/ watching/ analysing classical chess, you have to ask yourself in the first place, if you do indeed like chess, because most probably there are more suitable activities for you.
@ FM lovlas -- you've written "The point Kasparov tried to prove with that quote is that positions amateurs call uninteresting are sometimes filled with nuances and complexity. It is exactly the point of this quotation, thank you

@ scottdpt12 -- you've written " But as a SPECTATOR, 4-6 hour games are, for MOST PEOPLE, absolutely unwatchable. I'm very much a novice at chess, but love to watch good players play 15-20 minutes games (per side). I simply cannot watch 2700's playing for 5-6 hours. It's mind numbing boring ".

This proves that I have right. You're amateur. "MOST PEOPLE" where do you find it ?? You have the proof ??

" I simply cannot watch 2700's playing for 5-6 hours. It's mind numbing boring " I have time and I watch, mate. This is not a football game. You want some emotion? Go to a football game. Chess is an art and not a spectator sport.

@ BestSiteEver -- you've written "For me those short chess games of 1,3,5 min look ridiculous and boring. "

For chess players who are playing blitz is not ridiculous. No one forces you to watch it.

I have not wrote that I want to shorten classic chess, I wrote the money is the reason to shorten the game. You understand now, I hope. If so, "You'll Thank Me Later" :-))
This silly thread still going?
Getting rid of slow games is obviously ridiculous, 99% of serious players know this. end of story.
Me think you guys are getting trolled...
