Forums are too god damn boring !!!

I agree. This forum is the worst. I don't think of chess players usually as interesting people---gasp!

We should be able to edit posts! WTF, is this 1996? Just kidding. I can appreciate programmers, because that's what I study.

And these forums are dead. The only people that post are the people in this thread.

A chat room like FICS has might be nice, but I like a permanent log like a forum that I can go back to; to see how crazy my ideas were years later.

I love the simple, minimalist design though. Please don't clutter it up with tons of text, avatars, bio, etc (even though those things sound nice).
#10: "How to create new regulars? That is the question."

Pfft ... that's child's play! Just advertise for them on the ..., oh wait.
But all joking aside, it's a pitiful state of affairs here and I sincerely hope the most identifiable flaws will be ironed out in a near future. Even the once the bustling Cat Lovers forums (the official message board of a cat-themed club I'm a member of) isn't by far as active as I recall it from earlier times.
excuse my poor grammar in the last post ... X__x

Shamefur dispray!!
That's what I'm talking about! It is circular logic as its best, or put in slightly more simpler terms: Fun equals fun!
the userbase here is growing fast and the servers are gonna have trouble handling it pretty soon. it wouldn't make sense to introduce new (possibly data / traffic heavy) features at this point. actually anything that draws in more traffic to the forums might be a problem.

remember this is all built by volunteers and running on donations.
The problem is, there are 4 sub forums:

The OFF TOPIC one is mainly for the bored, sleep-deprived and deranged to write stupid stuff. Most people don't like to write stupid stuff on chess forums - just a few of us... and we do that.

Then there's the GENERAL CHESS DISCUSSION - where the subject matter goes from the ridiculous to the sublime. Instead of writing about Cat Civilisations, people are talking about when it is right and proper to resign. Yawn.

GAME ANALYSIS. How many games have people analysed on there in recent times? If you open the forum pages in different tabs, that's the one you probably don't bother to check.

Finally, we have the FEEDBACK. Let's face it, there's everything on there - the good, the bad and the downright weird. That's cool though, because you have to sift through lots of ideas to find the coolest ones. The problem is, things that people suggest don't seem to get positive vibes back from the mods. The biggest reactions are always the negative ones, quite honestly. Feedback is important, and ideas to move things forward are important. There are always changes and advances on lichess, but they can be in seemingly bizarre ways... suddenly you can have 3D chess sets and a squillion variants of the game, but it took 6 months to get the popular ranking system back after it was taken away, although loads of people wanted it back. About a year ago (or more?) there was a vote on lichess about what the users wanted. League style tournaments was an overwhelming winner.

Anyway, the forums are not really doing their job. They're unexciting and tired. Like me. Start by allowing people to edit their posts, and add a 'like' button or up and down arrows so people can show how they feel about posts without having to write themselves. Make it more accessible, and have better and more subforums.

That's my opinion. Should've gone in FEEDBACK probably :D

Night all :)

Meh. All I know is that if I never see the word 'cat' in a Lichess forum ever again, I will be satisfied.

But, I agree with Rairden. Please don't clutter it up, whatever you do.
