Playing chess with russians?

"Not playing against Russian users in chess will surely topple their country's military in Ukraine and their own trust in the government."

How delusional.
Right. If lichess existed in 1940s, why would not we all welcome nazi here? Hitler probably would not have an account on lichess, and ordinary Germans just supported killing people all over the Europe - what was their fault? Also, banning ordinary nazi would not stop Hitler anyway. So, why would not we just enjoy some chess with them after all?

I mean not playing with russian is a sign of support to ukraine, but it wouldn’t tell putin to stop or anything like that
Ir is also your own position. If you want to play nazis just for the sake of good games and try to find excuses why to do so (it does not stop putin, blah-blah-blah) it tells more about yourself than about anything else.
Right. And some chose to show. Presenting russian flag is also a position. I would not play person because of this.
Right. So some russians kill Ukrainians, other support them, but since it's not about chess, russians are fine.
I can't say Ive ever looked at the flag an individual is displaying. Can't say I ever will.

I'd much rather there was an indicator of whether someone was a total w+nker - those are the people I'd prefer to avoid playing.

By all means block whoever you want for any reason you want but don't come on here and try to encourage people to follow like little sheep.
The only way you know, or assume, someone is russian is if they display their flag. It's my opinion that that is sign of misplaced pride. russians should be concerned that their national image has been sullied, for good reason, before the entire world.

So, yes shunning them at the chessboard makes good sense to me.
