Checkmate in X tactics

It'd be really helpful if there was a tactics filter for checkmate in x puzzles.
But if you think about the fact that these puzzles are there to train your recognition of advantages for real games, in a real game you don’t know when to search for a checkmate. But you can analyse the position and if the best moves happen to lead to a checkmate then so be it.
In a real game you often have to decide whether there exists a checkmate or whether you can „only“ win material...
True, my thinking was by practicing while knowing to look for a checkmate you'd become better at recognizing checkmate patterns.

We improve by doing drills though. For example in baseball you might improve your defensive skills by fielding a ground ball 50 times in a row, even though that won't happen during an actual game.

I think it would be really helpful to have filters for the puzzles!

I agree with your point there.

In that case we could suggest leaving the „classic“ training mode and add a separate training, for example checkmate in x.
That way we can improve both our „surprise, real game“ recognition but also learn the different techniques which are possible. Though an on/off filter would do as well :)
I agree, and more generally, I'd love to see lichess implement a sort of "pattern recognition training mode", in addition to the standard puzzle mode. Something that focuses more on quickly and repeatedly recognising specific patterns, to drill them into your visual memory.

Spotting tactics in real games often depends on whether I just happen to recognise a familiar theme or pattern, so I feel like it would nicely complement calculation training.
