This response is extremely annoying.
Or at the very least have it affect their ability to play in tournaments?
@groovynwhippy Well people do get warnings for that, and if that same thing occurs constantly, that person will receive a temporary ban
@PurePremiumPenguin Evidentally the warnings aren't enough. Looking at people's competition ratings is proof that more must be done.
@PurePremiumPenguin Another potential solution is to reward more points to the victor if they win as a result of this decision. At the end of the day, chess is war and I don't think that we should be allowing people to avoid getting checkmated. Especially in tournaments. Getting destroyed in chess isn't fun. However, it's unfair to people that endure this fate to prevent them from being able to destroy others.
@groovynwhippy People might not understand the rules at first, and that warning helps them to do so, so that they learn from their mistakes.
@PurePremiumPenguin Anyway to have those people be filtered into a separate tournament somehow?
@PurePremiumPenguin My point is I don't mind being metaphorically punched in the face as long as I get a fair chance to metaphorically fight back. I feel that it's disrespectful to quit after you put yourself in a position that prevents you from winning.
The whole point of time clocks is to keep the games reasonable by preventing them from going on forever. If someone is letting time run because they're facing a forced mate I understand where you're coming from. However I feel that this is just one of those things that is better left alone than tinkered with. It's very possible that they're simply accepting defeat trying in vain to find a saving move.

@TheNaphtali My opponent began making mistakes and ended up in a vulnerable situation. They responded by leaving the game. Eventually, I chose to declare a victory instead of a draw.
