Just don't understand internet etiquette these days

You know, I understand if you are lacking time and you cannot get a rematch in...but the etiquette these days is very poor.

So in real life matches, Over The Board, you sit down at the board, but you also shake hands...when the match is over, you shake hands and walk away from the match. People don't just immediately leave their opponent after the match without some sort of general courtesy.

But online, people do it all the time. They finish a match and don't even take time to say hi or anything.

I don't understand it...why can't we get back to the way it used to be, where you actually told your opponent "gg" at the least?
Over The Board and Internet are different things. Get over it.
sometimes i just want to play a lot of games, not talk about the games, though it can be fun.
Some people are sore losers , but some people are to lazy to click the gg button and usually if they do they don't get a response in return. So what;s the point. You are in the maybe 10 percent of the people who click GG.
Sorry if this is slightly off topic, but this brings up an etiquette question I've had for a long time. What do you say after you win a game? From my experience, I've just decided to stay quiet. For instance, if you say "Good game" after you win, it might be taken to mean "Only for you," and if you say "Well played," that's pretty self congratulatory, as it means that you played even better. Perhaps I'm overthinking this lol.
No you aren't at all. It's like after say for instane after a Basketball game , People still shake hands and say GG even if it's a blowout. Chess shouldn't be any different. Saying GG should be your opinion and being respectful of your opponent. Not the other way around.
I dont take it that serious. I feel like chatting and learning about someone, I click gg. But yeah most people are here for chess and chatting is not important.
These days I'm glad when my opponents leave in silence since they usually only chat if they want to insult me.
@ace1886 If I want to say something to my opponent after I won, I would say "Thanks for the game!"/"Thanks for playing!" or something similar. Sometimes, when I really should have lost the game and he blundered away a sure win, I might say "I got lucky there...".
But with "Good game" you can't go wrong either after a competitive game.
A good thing to notice with online game is that your opponent can't throw pieces, board and his chair through the room :)
