I'd say that's a bit inaccurate. This is the real road of chess:

1. How the pieces can move
2. Where the pieces should move
3. When the pieces should/shouldn't move
4. Why pieces should move
5. Getting better / throwing chess into a fire

Ah yes, I definitely forgot number 6. But I just assumed that was a given for all of these. ;)
The never ending road to chess.
1. Play chess with grandma.
2. Challenge your Dad.
3. Join Chess club at school
4. Get demolished at county championship
5. Discover girls are more fun
6. Marry one.
7. Discover girls are not as much fun as you thought.
8. Drink.
9. Post on message boards.
10. die. but usually not before teaching your grandchildren how to play chess.
1. Inexplicably beat your dad every time.
2. Try you dad on "full strength"
3. Get annihilated
4. Get demoralised
5. Beat your dad when he's down 2 rooks
6. Beat your dad when he's down a queen
7. Beat your dad when he's down 1 rook
8. Beat your dad when he's down a piece
9. Beat your dad with equal material for the first time
10. Continue beating your dad
11. Realise your dad never was a very good player in the first place.
1. Lose to your dad repeatedly.
2. Find beginner level book on chess strategy.
3. Read beginner level book on chess strategy.
4. Beat your dad.
5. Beat your dad again.
6. Keep beating your dad.
7. Your dad suggests you try out reversi.
